It has been a while since I updated this blog, so I thought it would be a good idea to catch everyone up on what has happened in the time between posts. Long story short I got heavily invested in my job (this is a good thing) and this blog and a lot of my other non-job related activities fell by the wayside. Unfortunately along with that came a sharp drop in my training volume that coincided with the run up to the Breck EPIC. This resulted in me being unable to finish the Breck EPIC 3 day. It wasn’t an issue of endurance or grit. I was able to put in a solid effort for a continuous 8 hours on the first day. I had, however, underestimated how much power I would loose due to the increase in altitude. The fact was I simply couldn’t put out enough power without red-lining myself to finish the stages in a reasonable amount of time. After finishing the first stage through sheer grit I decided to withdraw from the rest of the race. This was not an easy decision but I think it was the right one. I am not giving up on this goal however. I purchased my entry to the 2017 Breck Epic the same day I withdrew.
